Operation Hire: Maryland’s 100 Day Veteran Hiring Challenge Began Yesterday!

 Our military veterans are a treasured resource in the civilian work place.  They are well trained and come to our work environments with unequivocal skill sets.  Research informs us that veterans are highly loyal and committed, they are adaptable and resilient, and they are excellent team builders.

One of the O’Malley-Brown Administration’s 16 Strategic Goals is full employment for veterans by the end of 2015.  In alignment with this goal, Operation Hire aims to provide information to employers and resources to veterans to support hiring initiatives for the next 100 days and beyond.

From June 1 to September 9, employers (businesses and federal, state, and local agencies) are encouraged to register to participate in Operation Hire.  The MDVA will track participation and veteran hiring during the Challenge.  Upon conclusion of the campaign, the MDVA will review all data submitted and employers will be recognized for their participation.  Special recognition will be given to two employers:

  • The employer with the most veteran hires (raw count)
  • The employer with the largest percentage of veteran hires by organizational workforce size

Please use the links below and encourage businesses and agencies to register for Operation Hire.  Please share the employment resources with our Maryland veterans and use #MDOperationHire in your messaging.

Governing for Results Series Starts TODAY!

 Today is our first “Governing for Results” event, centered around the Administration’s goal to reduce violent crime in Maryland by 20% by the end of 2018.
We created a document that details the Administration’s work on the public safety goals in general. That document is available here: Governing for Results: Improving Public Safety.

Please try to (1) to communicate with our stakeholders about this; and (2) to urge our stakeholders to communicate with their networks about the O’Malley-Brown Administration’s efforts to drive down violent crime and improve public safety.

Our objectives should be:

  1. to drive people to the violent crime page;
  2. to drive people to our Governing for Results: Improving Public Safety document; and
  3. to drive people to the goals page: goals.maryland.gov overall.
