There’s a great deal of news and information in this week’s Social Media Monday.  Please take the time to read the brief update on each important state initiative and help us spread the word where possible.  Thank you so much for your continued support and let me know if your agency or organization has news to share with the other state social media coordinators.

Meet up & Eat Up: Summer Meals for Kids

Help us connect Maryland kids with free or reduced cost summer meals in their communities by sharing this graphic and link as widely as possible.  From now through the end of the school year, parents simply text ‘Food’ to 877-877 to find their closest community provider.   Please tag @NoKidsHungry and use #SummerMeals.

Star Spangled Spectacular!

The excitement is kicking off now for the Star Spangled Spectacular, September 10-16th.   You will be receiving a great deal of information regarding this huge event throughout the summer.   Please share posts from @StarSpangled200  on Twitter and StarSpangled200 on Facebook or create your own if appropriate. This is what you need to know for the week:

June 9 – Kick of #StarSpangledSummer

o   Look for Press Realease and share info.

June 10 – Kick off #StarSpangledSelfie

o   Invite users to pose for selfies in front of an American flag, one of the Star-Spangled ads or a War of 1812 icon such as Fort McHenry and other sites along the Star-Spangled Banner National Historic Trail. The users would then post on Twitter, Instagram or TravelMD’s Facebook page using the hashtag #starspangledselfie.  On or about the 16th of each month, randomly selected winners will receive prize packs including VIP treatment during Star-Spangled Spectacular in September. The end dates to be eligible for each prize are: June 14; July 14; August 14 and then concluding on September 14.

o   MD Tourism is managing this campaign

June 13 – Debut of “Anthem of Liberty” at the MD Science Center: @MDScienceCenter

o    The film opens to the public on June 14.

June 14 – Raise it Up: Anthem for America- the union of the Flag and the Manuscript at the Smithsonian

o   Hashtag: #RaiseItUp

o   This event is being managed by the Smithsonian.  The Governor is speaking.  Their website is here:http://anthemforamerica.smithsonian.com/ and you will find great information to share!

Foreclosure Prevention Workshop: Prince George’s County on Sat, June 14.

On Saturday, June 14, Maryland’s Department of Housing and Community Development is holding a free Foreclosure Prevention Workshop as part of the Prince George’s County Housing Fair.  The Housing Fair will take place from 9am through 3pm on Saturday, June 14 at the Sports and Learning Complex, located at 8001 Sheriff Road, Landover, MD 20785 (next to FedEx Field).   Whether your mortgage payments are already overdue, or you’re worried about making future payments, you can register for this event by going to mdhope.org and clicking on the “Register Now” link.  Participants will be able to meet face-to-face with lenders, housing counselors and receive free advice from Maryland’s pro-bono legal network.

You can register online by June 12, or on-site registration will be available at the event.  Participants should bring all paperwork related to current and former mortgages, including loan application, settlement paperwork and lender statements, as well as all foreclosure notices, or threats of foreclosure if any received, and a monthly household budget and pay stubs if available.
