10 Significant Things You Likely Didn’t Know About Social Media But Should by Work Smart
Every now and again someone shares a blog post that needs to be highlighted in this top section rather than lost in the Industry News section below. This short but effective synopsis of recent social media statistics sent to me by Ed McDonough at MEMA is just such an article. My hope is that you will take a few minutes and read it in its entirety but just in case your week is simply too busy, here are a few general thoughts from the main points.
- Greatest advocates are those with the fewest followers: Time is precious and we are all balancing many tasks throughout the day as mentions and comments fly at us seemingly at the speed of light. Do you only respond to those who you deem as influencers? You may want to rethink this strategy.
- You have less than an hour to respond on Twitter: This is definitely true for the private sector. I have found that we government workers have a bit more latitude when it comes to response time. The public’s expectations are not quite as high. This provides a great opportunity to surprise our citizens with a quick response and even more positive feedback than our friends in the private sector. Capitalize on it with a quick, informative response when possible.
- Late night is the best time for rewteets: This is the perfect reason to use a scheduler like HootSuite Enterprise. You can schedule those retweets for multiple times a day and analyze the effectiveness of your strategy. Not on our HootSuite Enterprise team? Shoot me an email and I will see what I can do to add you.
- Facebook, Pinterest and Twitter Drive the Most traffic: This is true from sheer quantity but quality may be a completely different story. (Insert image smm blog)
Social media studies are plentiful but may not reflect your network experience. It is important to continuously test your strategy and quickly adjust when you find a deficiency. Have you fully utilized the reports feature of HootSuite Enterprise? Craft a custom reoccurring report today and start working towards a stronger social media presence.
