CALLING ALL COMMUNICATORS!

STAR-SPANGLED SPECTACULAR WILL BE SPECTACULAR, WITH YOUR HELP

By Jill Feinberg, Director of Marketing and Communications, Star-Spangled 200

jfeinberg@starspangled200.com

In less than a month all eyes will be on Maryland as we celebrate the 200th National Anthem during Star-Spangled Spectacular, September 10-16, 2014. O Say Can You See! Star-Spangled Spectacular is a free festival that celebrates the 200th anniversary of our National Anthem. Like Star-Spangled Sailabration in June 2012, tall ships, Navy ships and the Blue Angels will return to the Inner Harbor, alongside landside festivals that include a family fun zone, live musical performances, and Chesapeake food and beverage. However this time, events will crescendo on September 13 with two star-studded patriotic concerts (at Fort McHenry and a ticketed concert at Pier Six Pavilion) and extraordinary fireworks display over Fort McHenry and the Baltimore harbor, which will broadcast live on PBS’ Great Performances. For a full schedule of events, please visit our website.

MEDIA CREDENTIALING

Media credentialing is live on the Star-Spangled 200 website. The site includes an online application form, comprehensive media guidelines, pre-screening for select events and a calendar of media-worthy events. This site will help us efficiently manage the scores of media planning to seek credentials. Please encourage your media contacts to apply for credentials by sending them to www.StarSpangled200.com/Media.

Leadership and Technology

BIG UPS to DNR Fisheries Director Tom O’Connell for launching his Fisheries’ Director’s Blog!  You can read his inaugural very personal post here: http://dnr2.maryland.gov/fisheries/Pages/blog.aspx.  Please encourage your followers to connect with this new tool if applicable and be sure to pass it on to your own leadership team.

StatStat: Share the Partnership

Are you an agency working collaboratively with Maryland StateStat?  Help us spread awareness for this important program created and implemented by Governor O’Malley.  On Twitter, tag @StateStat and on Facebook tag Maryland StateStat.  We have been working hard to connect your agencies to our posts as well so please retweet and share when possible.

In addition, many of your agencies post data sets to the Maryland Open Data Portal.  Take the time to create posts leading your followers to these as well as the Governor’s strategic goals that apply to your agencies.

Operation Hire: Maryland’s 100 Day Veteran Hiring Challenge!   Use #MDOperationHire

DON’T STOP NOW!  We are focusing on gaining more employers into the challenge in the month of July.  Encourage your followers that are business owners to join the challenge and commit to hiring Maryland Veterans.  Many of our agencies are active participants in this effort as well.  Is yours?  If not, make sure you sign up and then post when you have joined and when you have hired a Maryland Veteran!
