@MarylandDJS goes viral!  Learn about this Maryland Department of Juvenile Services success story!

~ Simona Jones

Cumberland Maryland is a small town and almost everyone there has heard of a brave young girl fighting cancer for over a year now. Haley House travels from Cumberland to The John Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore to monitor the tumor and get treatment in hopes of getting rid of it. Last Monday, October 7th, the staff at Green Ridge Youth Center (GRYC), a DJS Maryland facility, heard that Haley would be going to the hospital the next day for treatment and the young men at GRYC decided to make cards for her and the staff decided it would be a great idea to put up a sign for her as encouragement and support and show up at the bridge when Haley would be traveling under it to put up the sign and wave to her and that is just what they did. On Thursday, October 9th at 8:54 AM DJS posted this story on their Facebook page along with four photos and two hash tags, #holdinghandsforhaley and #goteamhaley and something extraordinary happened.

In 4 hours, the post generated: 276 likes, 15 comments, 29 shares and reached 9,568 people. By 4:30 PM the same day, the post generated: 668 likes, 31 comments, 60 shares, reached 20,304 people and DJS received 27 new Facebook page likes. In 24 hours, the post generated: 1,044 likes, 47 comments, 129 shares and reached 43,728 people and DJS received 47 more Facebook likes bringing the total of new Facebook page likes to 74.

Over the weekend, the post continued to go viral and as of Monday morning generated an overall total of: 1,464 likes, 64 comments, 170 shares, reached 63,616 people and DJS received 95 new Facebook page likes bringing the DJS Facebook page Likes up from 469 to 564.
